Yay! Finally a sunshiny day, and we were determined to make the most of it, so we headed to Coloane (the southern most island of Macau). First stop A-Ma Cultural Center. A-Ma was the Goddess deity of Seafarers and fishermen from which the name of Macau is derived.

...and our favorite stop was the famous Lord Stow Cafe where we treated ourselves to hot chocolate and egg tarts (a local favorite specialty treat)
Then sun was still shining so we taxied back to Macau straight to the ruins of St Paul
Followed by uphill hike to Mount Fortress built back in 1617. It was the city's primary defense structure. It housed enough supplies to endure a seige of up to two years!
On our way to the Old Protestant Cemetery, we passed Saint Antonio's Church.
This cemetery was filled with US Navy men who had died while on ships in port nearby during the 1850's. Most had died from dysentery or from 'falling from aloft'. Most were under the age of 25-30 and all had died within a period of just a few short years. Others buried here were some of Macau's most famous residents dating back to the 1700's.
We hope it rains tomorrow -we are exhausted😉
